Community Scholarship Drive
ILI's Community Scholarship was launched in the summer of 2024 to make it possible for English- learning immigrants who take free English classes to enroll in ILI's intensive English program. This means they move from 6 hours a week over 10 months in the free English classes to 21 hours per week over 1 to 3 months. Benefits include:
- Students more quickly gain higher-level English language skills.
- In turn, additional doors open to secure better jobs faster, to advance farther along the college pathway, and to gain wider access to community resources.
- Teachers report that the mix of immigrant, refugee, and international students brings a whole new cultural dimension to the classroom: Immigrants and refugees share stories about their lives in the U.S., and international students reciprocate with tales about their lives and traditions back in their home countries.
Most students in the free English classes cannot afford the fee-based intensive classes without scholarship support. That is why ILI's scholarship program, including the new Community Scholarship, is so important.
This year, we're especially grateful to Peter Whalen of Whalen Insurance, whose generous $5,000 matching gift will double the impact of every donation until the match is met.
Please give as generously as you can, and on behalf of students who will benefit from your investment in the Community Scholarship, thank you!
Your gift is fully tax-deductible. Every dollar will go to support scholarship students.
